Summary
Web application for keeping track of media recommendations from your friends. UI/UX focused group project, implemented using HTML, CSS, MySQL, PHP, and Django Framework.
Problem Statement
With the rise of streaming services for music, movies, and shows consuming media has become easier than ever. The content is available 24/7 and you can finish an entire series in one sitting, the problem of 'what to watch next' is bigger than ever.
Approach
Our approach is to solving this problem, is facilitating the social aspect of discovering new content to consume. We accomplished this by creating a platform that allows the user to keep track of what their close friends recommend they watch or listen to.
We wanted the landing page to have a lot of affordance, by having an interactive search bar at the center of the page, the user is drawn in and can immediately see the main aspect of the site: Discovering Media.
User Studies
Our target demographic was college students and we asked them to test the program and see how well they were able to add, rate, and recommend media to friends.
We gathered that all subjects were satisfied and found the process self explanatory. All the users were able to get media recommended to them that they found relevant to them, using our algorithm, and also enjoyed being able to manually recommend media to their close friends in person.
Final Product
After several iterations this was our final look.
