UI/UX Design, Developer, Prototyping
Summary
Group project to re-design our Professor's Attendance Tracker, and I lead the frontend re-design using Java and JavaFX.
Problem Statement
Texas A&M Study Abroad was our client, and requested that we develop a website that will allow for Texas A&M students who study abroad to research more about the places they will be visiting during their trips, such as affordability, accessibility, safety, and other details that would be important for students to know but might not be made clear on typical review websites.
Approach

High Fidelity Mockup of the home page. Made on Adobe XD.

We achieved this goal by combining the Yelp API with our own custom website and database. As requested, we focused our product around ease of access. On the home page, the user can search by places in any city around the world. Clicking on any of these places takes the user to that location’s main page, which gives them a breakdown of business information taken from Yelp. However, this Yelp data is supplementary, as the main focus is the student reviews and ratings that are also shown on these pages.

Then, if the user wishes to leave a review, they can log in and click the leave a review button that appears on each location’s main page. This takes the user to a quick and easy to use review submission form, which will take them back to their selected location’s main page upon submission or cancellation.

Finally, we have a contact page that is linked in our website banner that contains the emergency contact information for the countries that the Education Abroad program visits, as well as the general contact information for the Education Abroad program itself.
Prototyping
We set up hi-fi clickable mockups using Adobe XD to use in the user studies.

Final Product
After 4 total iterations and meetings with our client we deployed our website to Heroku and the site can be visited via the following link.
Note: Only Texas A&M Students can leave reviews on this website. Also, this project acted as a jump off point for future Texas A&M Students to improve and work on. The current state of the site may no longer match the demo and screenshots shown on this website.
